Sudarshan Chakra is a spinning, disc weapon, having 108 serrated edges used by the Hindu god Vishnu or Krishna.

The Sudarshana Chakra is generally portrayed on the right rear hand of the four hands of Vishnu, who also holds a shankha, a Gada, and the Padma.

In the Mahabharata, Krishna, identified with Vishnu, uses it as a weapon. For example, he beheads Shishupala with the Sudarshana Chakra at the Rajasuya yagna of Emperor Yudhishthira.

He also uses it during the 14th day of the Mahabharata War to perplex Duryodhana by summoning Jayadratha in front of Arjuna by hiding the Sun with his chakra. In the end, the Kauravas get fooled and thus Arjuna avenges the death of his son.

This sadhna is of one night only and is particularly done on the eve of Krishna Janmashtami. Krishna Janamashtmi is the annual celebration of the birth of the Hindu deity Krishna who is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

The festival is celebrated on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha of the month of Shravana in the Hindu Calendar.
