The Panchmukhi Hanuman Kavach is addressed to the fierce form of Lord Hanuman. Lord Hanuman is an ardent devotee of Lord Rama. Hanuman is the son of Anjana and Kesari and is also the son of the wind god Vayu, who according to several stories, played a role in his birth.
Hanuman has many names like Maruti, Pawansuta, Bajrangbali, Mangalmurti but these names are rarely used. Hanuman is the common name of the vaanar (semi-ape, semi-man) god.

साधक को चाहिए कि सर्वप्रथम 'ॐ अस्य श्रीपञ्चमुखहनुमन्मन्त्रस्य' से लेकर 'क्रैं अस्त्राय फट्' पर्यन्त मन्त्र पढ़कर, दसों दिशाओं में चुटकी बजाता हुआ दिग्बन्धन करें।

श्री गरुड उवाच ।
अथ ध्यानं प्रवक्ष्यामि शृणुसर्वाङ्गसुन्दरि ।
यत्कृतं देवदेवेन ध्यानं हनुमतः प्रियम् ॥ १॥

Sri Garuda said:-
Adha Dhyanam pravakshyami , srunu sarvanga sundari,
Yath krutham deva devena dhyanam hanumatha priyam.
गरुड़ जी ने कहा- हे सुन्दरी! देवादिदेव भगवान् नं अपने प्रिय हनुमान् जी का जिस प्रकार ध्यान एवं पूजन आदि किया था, उसका मैं निरूपण करता हूँ, उसे सावधानी पूर्वक सुनो।।१।।
I am now reciting the meditative chant, Oh pretty lady,
Which is created by God of Gods and is dear to Hanuman.
पञ्चवक्त्रं महाभीमं त्रिपञ्चनयनैर्युतम् ।
बाहुभिर्दशभिर्युक्तं सर्वकामार्थसिद्धिदम् ॥ २॥
Pancha vakthram Maha bheemam, tripancha nayanair yutham,
Bahubhir dasabhir yuktham, sarva kamartha sidhi dham.
Who has five faces, who was greatly gross, who had fifteen eyes,
And had ten hands and would grant all desires.
पूर्वं तु वानरं वक्त्रं कोटिसूर्यसमप्रभम् ।
दन्ष्ट्राकरालवदनं भृकुटीकुटिलेक्षणम् ॥ ३॥
Poorvam thu vanaram vakthram , koti surya samaprabha,
Damshtra karala vadanam, brukuti kuti lakshanam.
जिसमें पूर्व दिशा वाला मुख करोड़ों सूर्य के समान कान्ति एवं भयंकर दाँतों से युक्त तथा क्रोधयुक्त भृकुटी चढ़ी हुई दृष्टि वाला, वानर नाम का मुख है ||३||
In the east in the face of the monkey, with the brilliance of billions of Suns,
With protruding teeth in a black face, which is curved and angry.
अस्यैव दक्षिणं वक्त्रं नारसिंहं महाद्भुतम् ।
अत्युग्रतेजोवपुषं भीषणं भयनाशनम् ॥ ४॥
Asaiva dakshinam vakthram Narasimha maha adbutham,
Athyugra thejo vapusham bheeshanam bhaya nasanam.
उनके दक्षिण ओर के मुख का नाम नारसिंह है, जो कि भयविनाशक, अत्यन्त तेजस्वी शरीर वाला, भयंकर तथा महा अद्भुत है ।। ४।।
In the south is the face of greatly wonderful Narasimha,
Which is very serious, the god being fearsome and a destroyer of fear.
पश्चिमं गारुडं वक्त्रं वक्रतुण्डं महाबलम् ॥
सर्वनागप्रशमनं विषभूतादिकृन्तनम् ॥ ५॥
Paschimam Garudam vakthram vakra thundam Mahabalam,
Sarva naga prasamanam visha bhoothadhi krundanam.
उसी प्रकार महाबलवान्, समस्त नागों को शान्त करने वाला तथा विष, भूत आदि को नष्ट करने वाला, टेढ़े मुख वाले हनुमान जी के पश्चिम मुख का नाम गारुडमुख है।
In the west is the face of a very strong Garuda with a curved beak,
Which subdues all snakes and cuts away poison and ghosts
उत्तरं सौकरं वक्त्रं कृष्णं दीप्तं नभोपमम् ।
पातालसिंहवेतालज्वररोगादिकृन्तनम् ॥ ६॥
Utharam soukaram vakthram krishnam dheeptham nabhopamam,
Patala Simha Vetala jwara rogadhi krunthanam.
उनके उत्तर दिशा की ओर के मुख का नाम सौकर . है, जो कि आकाश के समान देदीप्यमान, नील वर्ण वाला तथा पाताल, सिंह, बेताल और ज्वरादि रोगों को नष्ट करने वाला है।॥६॥
In the north in the face of a boar, which is black, shining, and comparable to the sky,
And which cuts away underworld, Lion, ghosts, fever, and sickness.
ऊर्ध्वं हयाननं घोरं दानवान्तकरं परम् ।
येन वक्त्रेण विप्रेन्द्र तारकाख्यं महासुरम् ॥ ७॥
Oordhwam hayananam ghoram danavanthakaram param,
Yena vakthrena viprendra tharakakyam maha suram.
उसी तरह भयंकर, दानवों को नष्ट करने वाला तथा महाबलवान् तारकासुर को जिस मुख से वध किया था। हे विप्रश्रेष्ठ! ऐसे हनुमान् जी के ऊपर की ओर के मुख का नाम हयानन है।।७।
At the top is the fearsome face of a horse, which destroys asuras,
By using which face the chief of Brahmins killed the great asura called Tharaka.
जघान शरणं तत्स्यात्सर्वशत्रुहरं परम् ।
ध्यात्वा पञ्चमुखं रुद्रं हनुमन्तं दयानिधिम् ॥ ८॥
Jagaana saranam thasyath sarva sathru haram param,
Dhyathwa Pancha mukham rudhram hanumantham dhaya nidhim.
जो साधक इन रुद्रस्वरूप, दयासागर, पंचमुख वाले हनुमान् का ध्यान करता है एवं उनके शरणागत होता है, उसके समस्त शत्रुओं को हनुमान जी नष्ट कर देते हैं || ८ ||
Meditating upon Hanuman who is merciful and angry,
Immediately after waking up and surrendering to him,
Would put an end to all the enemies and lead to salvation.
खड्गं त्रिशूलं खट्वाङ्गं पाशमङ्कुशपर्वतम् ।
मुष्टिं कौमोदकीं वृक्षं धारयन्तं कमण्डलुम् ॥ ९॥
भिन्दिपालं ज्ञानमुद्रां दशभिर्मुनिपुङ्गवम् ।
एतान्यायुधजालानि धारयन्तं भजाम्यहम् ॥ १०॥
प्रेतासनोपविष्टं तं सर्वाभरणभूषितम् ।
दिव्यमाल्याम्बरधरं दिव्यगन्धानुलेपनम् सर्वाश्चर्यमयं देवं हनुमद्विश्वतोमुखम् । ॥ ११॥
Khadgam trishulam, Gadwangam, pasam angusam parvatham,
Mushtim , kaumodhakim vruksham darayantham kamandalum,
Bindipalam Jnana mudhraam dasabhir muni pungavam,
Yethanyayudha jaalaani dharayantha bhajamyaham.
Prethasanopavishtam tham sarvabharana bhooshitham,
Divya malambaradharam , divya gandhanulepanam,
Sarvascharya mayam devam Hanumath viswatho mukam.

खड्ग, त्रिशूल, खट्वांग, पाश, अंकुश, पर्वत, मुष्टि, कौमोदकी गदा, वृक्ष तथा कमण्डलु, भिन्दिपाल, धारण किये हुए एवं दशों ज्ञानमुद्रा ऋषियों को प्रदर्शित करते हुए, समस्त आभरणों से सुशोभित, प्रेतासन (मुरदे) पर बैठे हुए, दिव्य माला एवं गन्ध लगाये हुए, चारों ओर मुख वाले आश्चर्यकारी ऐसे हनुमान जी का मैं ध्यान करता हूँ।।६-११।।
I sing about the great sage who is armed with his organs,
Trident, sword, rope, goad, mountain, fist,
Mace, trees, and holding the water pot,
Sign of protection and also Jnana in his ten hands.
Hanuman who evokes great surprise with his universal face,
Sits on a corpse, wears all sorts and kinds of ornaments,
Wears a divine garland and anoints himself with divine ointments.
पञ्चास्यमच्युतमनेकविचित्रवर्णवक्त्रं
शशाङ्कशिखरं कपिराजवर्यम ।
पीताम्बरादिमुकुटैरूपशोभिताङ्गं
पिङ्गाक्षमाद्यमनिशं मनसा स्मरामि ॥ १२॥
Panchasyam achyutham maneka vichithra varnam,
Vakthram sasanga shikaram kapi raja varyam,
स्थिर, अनेक विचित्र वर्ण वाले, चन्द्रमा से सुशोभित मस्तक वाले, कवियों में श्रेष्ठ, पीताम्बर एवं मुकुट से सुशोभित अंगवाले तथा पीले नेत्र वाले, आदिभूत, पंचमुख वाले हनुमान् जी का मैं मन से निरन्तर स्मरण करता हूँ।।१२।।
Peethabaradhri makutair upa shobhithangam,
Pingakshamadhyamanisam Manasa smarami.
I mentally meditate on him who has five faces of Vishnu,
Who have multi-colored and diverse faces,
Who was the top one respected by all monkeys,
Who shines in the yellow silk that he ties on his head,
Who has red eyes and who is the first always.
मर्कटेशं महोत्साहं सर्वशत्रुहरं परम् ।
शत्रु संहर मां रक्ष श्रीमन्नापदमुद्धर ॥ १३॥
Markataisam mahothsaham sarva shathru haram param,
Shathrum samhara maam raksha siman apad udhara.
हे हनुमन्! आप वानराधिपति, महान् उत्साही तथा समस्त शत्रुओं को नष्ट करने वाले हैं। अतः आप मेरी रक्षा करें, शत्रुओं का संहार करें और भयंकर आपत्तियों से भी मेरा उद्धार करें ||१३||
Oh monkey god who is exuberant and who destroys all his enemies,
Please save me by killing all my enemies, Oh God who lifts people from danger.
ॐ हरिमर्कट मर्कट मन्त्रमिदं
परिलिख्यति लिख्यति वामतले ।
यदि नश्यति नश्यति शत्रुकुलं
यदि मुञ्चति मुञ्चति वामलता ॥ १४॥
Om Harimarkata markata manthramidham ,parilikhyathi likhyathi vama thale ,
yadi nasyathi nasyathi shathru kulam,yadi muchyathi muchyathi vama latha. 14
यदि साधक 'ॐ हरिमर्कटाय स्वाहा' इस मन्त्र को लिखकर अपनी बॉयी भुजा में बाँधता है, तो उसके समस्त शत्रु-कुल निश्चय ही नष्ट होते हैं तथा अशुभ भी अपनी अशुभता का परित्याग कर शुभ फल प्रदान करता है।।१४।।

ॐ अंजनी माता के पुत्र (हनुमान जी) के लिए नमस्कार कहकर हृदय को नमस्कार करना । ॐ रुद्रमूर्ति कं लिए (नमस्कार) कहकर सिर भाग को छूते हुए जप रूप आहुति देने के लिए स्वाहा बोलना। ॐ वायु के पुत्र (हनुमान्) के लिए कहकर अपनी चोटी को छूना। ॐ आग धारण करने वाले कहकर अपनी दोनों भुजाओं को स्पर्श करना चाहिए। ॐ रामचन्द्र भगवान के लिए तीनों नेत्रों (तीसरा नेत्र दोनों भौंहों के बीच माथे पर है) स्पर्श करें। ॐ पंचमुखी हनुमान के अस्त्र के लिए आवाहन फट् कहकर दाहिने हाथ की दोनों मध्यमा और अनामिका अंगुली को बायीं हथेली पर धीरे से बजाएं। तत्पश्चात् 'ॐ पंचमुखहनुमते स्वाहा' यह पढ़कर अपने मस्तक के चारों ओर चुटकी बजाता हुआ दिग्बन्ध करें।

Gadwangam phani bhooruham dasa bhujam sarvari veerapaham.
ध्यान- दिव्य अलंकारों से सुशोभित, पन्द्रह नेत्रवाले, अपनी कान्ति से ही देदीप्यमान, तलवार, खेट, पुस्तक, अमृतकलश, अंकुश, पर्वत, हल, खट्वांग, सर्प और वृक्ष आदि आयुध (शस्त्र) अपने दसों करकमलों में धारण किये हुए तथा समस्त वीर शत्रुओं को नष्ट करने वाले, वानर, नृसिंह, गरुड़, वाराह एवं अश्व इन पाँच मुख वाले जी को मैं नमस्कार करता हूँ।

तत्पश्चात् 'ॐ हरिमर्कट-मर्कटाय' से लेकर 'षं सं हं लं क्ष स्वाहा' तक पढ़कर अपने मस्तक के चारों ओर चुटकी बजा कर दिग्बन्ध करे।

इदं कवचं पठित्वा तु महाकवचं पठेन्नरः ।
एकवारं जपेत्स्तोत्रं सर्वशत्रुनिवारणम् ॥ १५॥
Idham kavacham padithwa maha kavacham paden nara ,
Yeka varam japeth stotram sarva shathru nivaranam.
इस कवच को पढ़कर मनुष्य को महाकवच पढ़न चाहिए। सभी प्रकार के शत्रुओं के नाश के लिए प्रतिदिन "क बार इसे पढ़ना चाहिये ।। १५ ।।
After reading this followed by the reading of the great armor,
For a period of one week would destroy all one’s enemies.
द्विवारं तु पठेन्नित्यं पुत्रपौत्रप्रवर्धनम् ।
त्रिवारं च पठेन्नित्यं सर्वसम्पत्करं शुभम् ॥ १६॥
Dwivaram thu paden nithyam puthra poutharabhi vardhanam,
Trivaram cha paden nithyam sarva sapath karam shubham.
अगर कोई मनुष्य इसे दो बार प्रतिदिन पढ़ता है तो है उसके पुत्र और पोतों की वृद्धि और उन्नति होती है। प्रतिदिन तीन बार पाठ करने से सभी प्रकार की सम्पत्ति आती है ।। १६ ।।
Reading daily for two weeks would increase the number of children and grandchildren,
Reading daily for three weeks would bring all sorts of wealth.
चतुर्वारं पठेन्नित्यं सर्वरोगनिवारणम् ।
पञ्चवारं पठेन्नित्यं सर्वलोकवशङ्करम् ॥ १७॥
Chathurvaram paden nithyam sarva roga nivaranam,
Pancha varam paden nithyam srava loka vasam karam,
इसको प्रतिदिन चार बार पाठ करने से सभी लोग पाठ करने वाले के वश में हो जाते हैं। जो कोई इसे पाँच बार पढ़ता है तो उसके सभी प्रकार के रोग नष्ट हो जाते हैं ।। १७ ।।
Reading daily for four weeks would cure all diseases,
Reading daily for five weeks would make the entire world under our control,
षड्वारं च पठेन्नित्यं सर्वदेववशङ्करम् ।
सप्तवारं पठेन्नित्यं सर्वसौभाग्यदायकम् ॥ १८॥
Shadvaram cha paden nithyam Sarva deva vasam karam,
Saptha varam cha paden nithyam sarva soubhahya dhayakam.
प्रतिदिन इसका छह बार पाठ करने से सभी देवता पाठ करने वाले के वश में हो जाते हैं और नित्य सात बार पाठ करने से सभी इच्छाएँ पूरी हो जाती हैं ।। १८ ।।
Reading daily for six weeks would put all gods under our control,
Reading daily for seven weeks would give us all the world’s luck.
अष्टवारं पठेन्नित्यमिष्टकामार्थसिद्धिदम् ।
नववारं पठेन्नित्यं राजभोगमवाप्नुयात् ॥ १९॥
Ashta varam paden nithyam ishta kamartha sidhidham,
Nava varam cha paden nithyam raja bhogamavapnuyath.
इसे आठ बार नित्य पाठ करने से सभी प्रकार के सौभाग्य बढ़ते हैं तथा नौ बार रोज पाठ करने से सभी प्रकार के वैभव-ऐश्वर्य प्राप्त होते हैं ।। १६ ।।
Reading daily for eight weeks would fulfill all that we desire,
Reading daily for nine weeks would result in the pleasures of a king.
दशवारं पठेन्नित्यं त्रैलोक्यज्ञानदर्शनम् ।
रुद्रावृत्तिं पठेन्नित्यं सर्वसिद्धिर्भवेद्ध्रुवम् ॥ २०॥
Dasa varam paden nihyam tri lokya jnana darsanam,
Rudra vruthir paden nithya, sarva sidhir bhaved dhruvam.
प्रतिदिन इसे दस बार पढ़ने से तीनों लोकों में जो भी जानने योग्य है-उसका तत्त्व ज्ञान हो जाता है। रोज ग्यारह बार पढ़ने से मनुष्य को सभी कार्यों में पूर्ण सफलता प्राप्त होती है।॥ २०॥
Reading daily for ten weeks would get you all your knowledge in all three worlds,
Reading daily for eleven weeks would definitely get you all, occult powers
निर्बलो रोगयुक्तश्च महाव्याध्यादिपीडितः ।
कवचस्मरणेनैव महाबलमवाप्नुयात् ॥ २१॥
Nirbhalo roga yukthascha maha vyadheedhi peeditham,
Kavacha smaranenaiva Maha balamapnuyath,
इस कवच के स्मरण मात्र से ही मनुष्य महाबलवान हो जाता है ||२१||
But in the case of a person who is weak , diseased, or in clutches of great diseases,
Even though this armor will give him great strength.
॥ इति श्रीसुदर्शनसंहितायां श्रीरामचन्द्रसीताप्रोक्तं श्रीपञ्चमुखहनुमत्कवचं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
