Tulasi Mantra is a divine mantra to get blessings from the deities and Lord Krishna. Tulasi is a plant most blessed to Krishna. Tulasi, also understood as ‘holy basil’ is auspicious in all regards. She is a pure and great lover of the Lord, and most beloved to Lord Krishna.
It is expressed in the Brahma Vaivarta Purana that Tulasi, in Her last birth, was Vrinda Devi wedded to an asura (a person with demonic qualities) named Jalandhar. To gain victory over Jalandhar, Lord Vishnu coaxed Vrinda Devi to give up loyalty to her husband. After being satisfied with her, Lord Vishnu sanctified her as Tulasi; One who can be cherished by people all over the galaxy.
Vrinda Devi has thus materialized in this earthly world as a plant, Tulasi. She was born on the lunar day of the full moon in the month of Karthik. Simply by seeing, simply by touching, simply by praying to, simply by bowing before, simply by sowing, or simply hearing about the Tulasi plant, auspiciousness is awakened.
In Kali Yuga, when Tulasi is grown, praised, washed, given in charity, prayed to, recalled, presented to Lord Krishna, and also when the leftovers of her offered leaves are consumed, all sins are fumed away. Tulasi Maharani is not only the remover of sins but also the giver of spiritual qualities.
With her blessings, one can cultivate bhakti and make steady progress in devotional service. Tulasi Maharani increases our service attitude and gives us an increased attachment to devotional service.
Below are illustrations of the credits of Tulasi Maharani from the Padma Purana:
“Whoever gives Tulasi leaves cut in reverence to Vishnu in the month of Karthik will reap the fruits secured by the gift of ten million cows.”
“To bring auspiciousness to the world and to benefit the Gopis, Lord Krishna planted you and cared for you on the shore of the Gomati River.”
“Upon touching her, impurities are liberated. Upon offering prayers to her, all diseases are cast out. Upon watering her, all fears come to an end. Upon being in her proximity, devotion to Krishna is implanted in the heart. Upon casting oneself at her feet, the fruit of the greatest liberation is attained.”
“If one holds on his/her head the water that has washed a Tulasi leaf, one attains the result of bathing in the Ganges or the result of giving ten cows in charity.”
तुलसीका नामोच्चारण करने पर श्रीहरि प्रसन्न होते हैं, मनुष्यके पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं तथा उसे अक्षय पुण्यकी प्राप्ति होती है। जिसके दर्शनमात्रसे करोड़ों गोदानका फल होता है, उस तुलसी का पूजन और वंदन लोग क्यों न करें।
कलियुगके संसारमें वे मनुष्य धन्य हैं, जिनके घरमें शालग्राम शिलाका पूजन सम्पन्न करने के लिये प्रतिदिन तुलसीका वृक्ष भूतल पर लहलहाता रहता है।
जो कलियुगमें भगवान् केशवकी पूजाके लिये पृथ्वी पर तुलसीका वृक्ष लगाते हैं, उन पर यदि यमराज अपने दूतों सहित रुष्ट हो जायें तो भी वे उनका क्या कर सकते हैं।
तुलसी तुम अमृतसे उत्पन्न हो और केशवको सदा ही प्रिय हो। मैं भगवान्की पूजाके लिये तुम्हारे पत्तोंको चुनता हूं। तुम मेरे लिये वरदायिनी बनो।
तुम्हारे श्रीअंगोंसे उत्पन्न होने वाले पत्रों और मंजरियों द्वारा मैं सदा ही जिस प्रकार श्रीहरिका पूजन कर सकूं वैसा उपाय करो। पवित्रांगी तुलसी! तुम कलिमल का नाश करने वाली हो |
इस भावके मंत्रोंसे जो तुलसीदलोंको चुनकर उनसे भगवान् नारायणका पूजन करता है, उसकी पूजा का करोड़ोंगुना फल होता है। (पद्मपुराण)
Tulsi Mantra
Shreem Hreem Kleem Aing Vrindavanyae Swaha
मंत्र - 'श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ऐं वृन्दावन्यै स्वाहा ।'
श्रीहरि कहते हैं- यह दशाक्षर मंत्रराज कल्पतरु है। जो इस मंत्रका उच्चारण करके विधिपूर्वक तुलसी देवीकी पूजा करता है, उसे निश्चयही सम्पूर्ण सिद्धियां प्राप्त हो जाती हैं।
घृतका दीपक, धूप, सिन्दूर, नैवेद्य और पुष्पादि उपचारोंसे तथा स्तोत्र द्वारा भगवान् श्रीहरिसे सुपूजित होने पर तुलसीको बड़ी प्रसन्नता हुई। अतः वह वृक्षसे बाहर आयी और प्रसन्न होकर श्रीहरिके चरण कमलोंकी शरणमें चली गयी।
तब श्रीहरिने उन्हें वर दिया- देवी! तुम सर्वपूज्या हो जाओ। मैं स्वयं तुम्हें अपने मस्तक तथा वक्षःस्थल पर धारण करुंगा। इतना ही नहीं, सम्पूर्ण देवता तुम्हें अपने मस्तक पर धारण करेंगे
तुलसी नामाष्टक- 'वृन्दा, वृन्दावनी, विश्वपूजिता, विश्वपाविनी, पुष्पसारा, नन्दिनी, तुलसी और कृष्णजीवनी'- ये देवी तुलसीके आठ नाम हैं। यह सार्थक नामवाली स्तोत्रके रूपमें परिणत है।
जो पुरुष तुलसीकी पूजा करके इस नामाष्टक का पाठ करता है, उसे अश्वमेघयज्ञ का फल प्राप्त होता है। कार्तिककी पूर्णिमा तिथिको देवी तुलसीका मंगलमय प्राकट्य हुआ और सर्वप्रथम भगवान् श्रीहरिने उनकी पूजा सम्पन्न की।
जो इस कार्तिकी पूर्णिमाके अवसर पर विश्वपानी तुलसीकी भक्तिभावसे पूजा करता है, वह सम्पूर्ण पापोंसे मुक्त होकर भगवान् विष्णुके लोकमें चला जाता है।
जो कार्तिक महीनेमें भगवान् विष्णुको तुलसी पत्र अर्पण करते है, वह दस हजार गोदानका फल निश्चित रूपसे प्राप्त करता है। इस तुलसी नामाष्टकके पाठसे संतानहीन पुरुष पुत्रवान् बन जाता है।
जिसे पत्नी न हो, उसे पत्नी मिल जाती है तथा बंधहीन व्यक्ति बहुतसे बांधवोंको प्राप्त कर लेता है। इसके स्मरणसे रोगी मुक्त हो जाता है, बंधनमें पड़ा हुआ व्यक्ति छुटकारा पा जाता है, भयभीत पुरुष निर्भय हो जाता है और पाप पापोंसे मुक्त हो जाता है।
श्रीतुलसीनामाष्टकस्तोत्रम् अष्टनामावलिश्च
वृन्दा वृन्दावनी विश्वपूजिता विश्वपावनी ।
पुष्पसारा नन्दिनी च तुलसी कृष्णजीवनी ॥

एतन्नामाष्टकं स्तोत्रं पठन्मङ्गलमाप्नुयात् ।

Vrindavani – one who first manifested in Vrindavan
Vrinda – the goddess of all plants and trees
Visvapujita – one whom the whole world and the whole universe worships
Puspasara – the topmost of all flowers, without whom Krishna does not like to look upon other flowers
Nandini – one who gives happiness to everyone
Krishna-jivani – the life of Lord Krishna
Visva-pavani – one who purifies the universe
Tulasi – one who has no comparison
