This Matangi kavacham is practiced not only for protection but for seeking worldly pleasures, knowledge and abundance. Mahavidya Matangi is worshipped to gain magical or psychic powers.
Matangi is associated, in particular, with magical powers that exercise control over enemies. The Mahavidya Matangi, the erotically powerful, intoxicated with passion like a female elephant in heat is described as a sixteen-year – young girl in the flush of her youth seated on an altar. She has full breasts and a very slim waist.
Her complexion is greenish. She is impassioned. Her eyes are intoxicated while a gentle smile plays upon her lips. She is perspiring slightly around her face, which makes her all the more exciting and desirable. Below her navel are three horizontal folds of skin and a thin vertical line of fine hair. Her hair on the head is long and wild, and the disc of the moon adorns her forehead. She favors red; her dress and ornaments are in various shades of red.
She wears a girdle of jeweled ornaments, as well as bracelets, armlets, and earrings. She is adorned with garlands of wild Kadamba flowers. She holds in her hands a skull and a chopping blade dripping blood. With the other hand, she holds an ornate musical string instrument, veena. She is flanked by two parrots. She represents sixty-four arts. Such is the majesty of Raja-matangi the queen of all.

श्रीमातङ्गी कवचम्
अस्य श्रीमातङ्गीकवचमन्त्रस्य महायोगीश्वरऋषिः
अनुष्टुप् छन्दः श्रीराजमातङ्गी देवता पाठे विनियोगः ॥
नीलोत्पल प्रतीकाशा मञ्जनाद्रि समप्रभाम् ।
विनाहस्ताङ्ग निरतां मधुपात्रं च बिभ्रतीम् ॥ १॥
सर्वालङ्कार संयुक्तां श्यामलां मदशालिनीम् ।
नमामि राजमातङ्गीं भक्तानामिष्टदायिनीम् ॥ २॥
एवं ध्यात्वा जपेन्नित्यं कवचं सर्वकामदम् ।
शिखां मे श्यामला पातु मातङ्गी मे शिरोऽवतु ॥ ३॥
ललाटं पातु चण्डाली भ्रुवौ मे मदशालिनी ।
कर्णौ पातु मातङ्गी शङ्खौ कुण्डल शोभिता ॥ ४॥
नेत्रे पातु रक्ताक्षी नासिकां पातु मे शिवा ।
गण्डौ मे पातु देवेशी ओष्ठौ बिम्बफलाधरा ॥ ५॥
जिह्वां मे पातु वागीशी दन्तान् कल्याणकारिणी ।
पातु मे राजमातङ्गी वदनं सर्वसिद्धिदा ॥ ६॥
कण्ठं मे पातु हृद्याङ्गी वीणाहस्ता करौ मम ।
हृदयं पातु मे लक्ष्मी नाभिं मे विशवनायिका ॥ ७॥
मम पार्श्वद्वयं पातु सूक्ष्म मध्या महेश्वरी ।
शुकश्यामा कटिं पातु गुह्यं मे लोकमोहिनी ॥ ८॥
ऊरू मे पातु भद्राङ्गी जानुनी पातु शाङ्करी ।
जङ्घाद्वयं मे लोकेशी पादौ मे परमेश्वरी ॥ ९॥
प्रागादिदिक्षु मां पातु सर्वैश्वर्य प्रदायिनी ।
रोमाणि पातु मे कृष्णा भार्यां मे भववल्लभा ॥ १०॥
शरीरं सर्वतः पातु मम सर्ववशङ्करी ।
महालक्ष्मीर्मम धनं विश्वमाता सुता मम ॥ ११॥
श्रीमातङ्गीश्वरी नित्यं मां पातु जगदीश्वरी ।
मातङ्गी कवचं नित्यं य एतत्प्रपठेन्नरः ॥ १२॥
सखित्वं सकलान् लोकान् दासीभूतान्करोत्यसौ ।
प्राप्नोति महतीं कान्तिं भवेत्काम शतप्रभः ॥ १३॥
लभते महतीं लक्ष्मीं त्रैलोक्ये नापि दुर्लभाम् ।
अणिमाद्यष्ट सम्प्राप्य सञ्चरत्येष मानवः ॥ १४॥
सर्वविद्या निधिरयं भवेद्वागीश्वरेश्वरः ।
ब्रह्मराक्षस वेताल भूतप्रेत पिशाचकैः ॥ १५॥
ज्वलन्वह्निरिव शस्यैर्वेश्यते भूतपूर्वकैः ।
परमं योगमाप्नोति दिव्यज्ञानं समश्नुते ॥ १६॥
पुत्रान् पौत्रानवाप्नोति श्रीर्विद्याकान्ति संयुतान् ।
तद्भार्या दुर्भगा चापि कान्त्या रतिसमाभवेत् ॥ १७॥
सर्वान् कामानवाप्नोति महाभोगांश्च दुर्लभान् ।
भुक्तिमन्ते समाप्नोति साक्षात्परशिवो भवेत् ॥ १८॥
