Dhumavati Kavach protects the sadhak from all the perils, dangers and natural calamities. Dhumavati unlike most other Mahavidya is old, ugly and sulking.
She is the only Mahavidya without a consort. She is a widow associated with strife, loneliness, unfulfilled desires and inauspicious things of life. She indulges in quarrels and is intolerant of anything that is auspicious.
She is instinctively drawn to households in which there is strife — where family members quarrel or where the adults feed themselves and disregard the hunger of their children. She has , however, certain positive characteristics such as: guiding the devotee along the spiritual path to help him/her attain liberation, granting Siddhis and rescuing her devotees from troubles.
Dhumavati is worshipped by the Tantrics for attainment of Siddhis (magical powers). Though Dhumavati’s worship is considered ideal for bachelors, widows, Sannyasins and Tantrics, the householders too flock to her seeking blessings and fulfillment of their desires. Dhumavati thus represents a stage of woman’s life that is beyond worldly desires, beyond the conventional taboos of what is polluting or inauspicious. She desires to be free and at the same time she likes to be useful to the family and to the society.
This Dhumavati Kavach is derived from the conversation between Bhairava & Bhairavi. The Dhumavati kavach is the rescuer of the devotee in spiritual as well as materialistic path. The Dhumavati kavach destroys the enemies and malefic effects of planets. There are various Tantras which are associated with this kavach which can only be shared by a Guru to his disciple.

श्रीधूमावतीकवचम्
श्रीगणेशाय नमः ।
अथ धूमावती कवचम् ।
श्रीपार्वत्युवाच –
धूमावत्यर्चनं शम्भो श्रुतं विस्तरतोमया ।
कवचं श्रोतुमिच्छामि तस्या देव वदस्व मे ॥ १॥
श्रीभैरव उवाच –
शृणुदेवि परं गुह्यं न प्रकाश्यं कलौयुगे ।
कवचं श्रीधूमावत्याश्शत्रुनिग्रहकारकम् ॥ २॥
ब्रह्माद्यादेवि सततं यद्वशादरिघातिनः ।
योगिनोभवछत्रुघ्ना यस्याध्यान प्रभावतः ॥ ३॥
ॐ अस्य श्रीधूमावतीकवचस्य पिप्पलाद ऋषिः
अनुष्टुप्छन्दः श्रीधूमावती देवता धूं बीजम् स्वाहाशक्तिः
धूमावती कीलकम् शत्रुहनने पाठे विनियोगः ।
ॐ धूं बीजं मे शिरः पातु धूं ललाटं सदावतु ।
धूमानेत्रयुगं पातु वती कर्णौसदावतु ॥ ४॥
दीर्घातूदरमध्ये तु नाभिं मे मलिनाम्बरा ।
शूर्पहस्ता पातु गुह्यं रूक्षारक्षतु जानुनी ॥ ५॥
मुखं मे पातु भीमाख्या स्वाहा रक्षतु नासिकाम् ।
सर्वं विद्यावतु कष्टं विवर्णा बाहुयुग्मकम् ॥ ६॥
चञ्चला हृदयं पातु दुष्टा पार्श्वं सदावतु ।
धूतहस्ता सदा पातु पादौ पातु भयावहा ॥ ७॥
प्रवृद्धरोमा तु भृशं कुटिला कुटिलेक्षणा ।
क्षृत्पिपासार्दिता देवी भयदा कलहप्रिया ॥ ८॥
सर्वाङ्गं पातु मे देवी सर्वशत्रुविनाशिनी ।
इति ते कवचं पुण्यं कथितं भुवि दुर्लभम् ॥ ९॥
न प्रकाश्यं न प्रकाश्यं न प्रकाश्यं कलौ युगे ।
पठनीयं महादेवि त्रिसन्ध्यं ध्यानतत्परैः ।
दुष्टाभिचारो देवेशि तद्गात्रं नैव संस्पृशेत् ॥ १०॥
इति भैरवी भैरव संवादे धूमावती तत्त्वे धूमावती कवचं सम्पूर्णम् ।
