Rudra Gayatri Mantra is practiced to align with Lord Shiva in Rudra form. Rudra is the mightiest form of Lord Shiva in the whole universe. Rudra is capable of destroying every form, force, and element into ashes.
There are 11 Rudras according to the Rigveda each assigned with different tasks in the creation.
The 11 Rudras are Kapaali, Pingala, Bhima, Virupaksha, Vilohitaa, Ajesha, Shavasana, Shasta, Shambu, Chanda and Dhruva.
Rudra is like a violent storm that focuses on its destructive nature. Every known powerful force in the universe is nothing in front of Rudra.
The word Rudra also signifies ‘roaring storm’, ‘fierce’, and ‘destruction’. The word Rudra illustrates the forceful curve of Shiva which is destruction. He is also hailed, Rudra Shiva. In the Trinity, Shiva has been designated the destroyer and the name Rudra Shiva fits well.
Rudra creates fear in the heart of enemies and all evil forces. It is believed that even semi-gods fear the fury of Rudra and shiver just by the name of Rudra.
Rudra turned Kamdev into ashes when he tried to disrupt the Mediation of Lord Shiva. No entity can be spared from the wrath of Rudra.
Rudra is also gentle to the devotees. Rudra protects the devotees from negative influences.
Rudra mantra is chanted to transcend the false self and attune with the enlightened self. Regular practice of the Rudra mantra helps in attaining the constructive energies of the universe.
Many Sadhaks have felt divine enlightenment and courage to perform higher levels of Sadhana after chanting the Gayatri mantra. The mantra can be started on any Monday after the Amavasya.
